I was born in The Netherlands and migrated to Australia at the age of six. My family embraced the warmer climate and the vast landscape. Fond memories of a social childhood, holidays by the beach, road trips and camping around Australia is where I believe the inspiration for my art originates.
With a Bachelor in Design my career began freelancing as an illustrator/graphic designer from several studios around Adelaide. My interest to expand my skills in life drawing and a desire to learn more about printmaking, led me to also achieve a Bachelor in Visual Arts. During my time of study I received a mentorship with Dean Bowen, a Melbourne based sculptor, printmaker and painter represented by galleries world wide. An experience and opportunity I will always be grateful for.
For several years I worked at the Onkaparinga TAFE, teaching first year printmaking students. I also worked for The Arts & Cultural Development Team with the Onkaparinga Council at the Arts Centre, Pt Noarlunga. Here I taught art classes to adults and children, coordinated community arts projects, created public art designs and curated several exhibitions while also holding an "Artist in Residence" position at the Happy Valley Primary School.
I am a founding member of Bittondi Printmakers Association and T’Arts Textile & Arts Collective. Bittondi; instrumental in developing an open access studio workshop and T'Arts; an artist run gallery shop from where I worked & sold my art for ten years, leaving in 2013 and recently re-joined in 2020. T'Arts Collective displays over 30 Australian, mostly South Autralian, artists, crafters and designers.
My art expresses a passion for life, a celebration of family and friends, my joy in nature and music and a love of colour. A highlight for me was travelling back to the Netherlands for the first time in 2013 to reunite with family and an opportunity to include a trip to Spain and Morocco. While in Spain a few days were spent in Pinos Genil, a small village in Granada where I learnt about 'solar-plate' etching and 'liquid metal' printmaking with Maureen Booth at the Gallinero Artist Residence. Since then a few more international trips and iconic art experiences have been enjoyed.
In 2014, Steve and I moved to Brisbane, Queensland, to pursue a dream and a much needed 'sea change', here, we brewed beer. However "sometimes on the way to a dream you get lost and find a better one" and have since returned to our home in the hills. Here I continue with a strong focus on developing my printmaking and mixed media paintings with vivid memories of a tropical climate and a different landscape; excited about Adelaide and all it has to offer.
